INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S CLUB OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
WEDNESDAY 8TH MARCH 2017 FROM 2.45 PM TO 5.00 PM
The International’s Women Club of Brunei Darussalam held an event to mark the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, 8th March 2017 at the Lecture Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
The International Women Day is an event held annually on the 8th March all across the world to celebrate the social economic, cultural and political achievements and contributions of women.
The event was officiated by the Club’s President Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah Hj Osman followed by a Keynote International Women Day address by Her Excellency Ms Nicola Rosenblum, The High Commissioner of Australia to Brunei Darussalam on this year’s global theme “Be Bold For Change”. In her address Her Excellency highlighted “It is a time to reflect on the progress we have made, and to recommit to addressing the remaining barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment”.
The event followed by a motivational talk on “Entrepreneurship for women’s selfsufficiency” by Dr Hajah Mona Yati bte Dato Seri Laila Jasa Hj Md Kassim, a Certified Professional Trainer and CEO and founder of MUBN Learning and Growth Company and a health talk on “Seven Things a Woman should know” by Dr. Chitra Karat, Head and
Consultant in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Jerudong Park Medical Centre.
One of the Club’s members, Ms Aisha Ali, spouse of Mr Shafiul Azim, Counsellor and Chief of Labour and Expatriate Welfare of the Bangladesh High Commission also recited a special International Women Day poem titled “Who am I” during the event.
The event concluded with a Beauty talk by Elly Asbellah, Founder of M Image Beauty Studio.
The International Women’s Day 2017 event was attended by close to 100 women comprising of the Club’s honorary members from the various Embassies and High Commissions at Brunei Darussalam and the Club’s members. The Club wishes to thank the contributions of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd, Laniege, Cuckoo, Supa Save, Faceshop
and Sari Ayu Martha Tilaar for the event.
The event is organised by the International’s Women Club of Brunei Darussalam every year to celebrate the annual International Women’s Day and to promote and create awareness on women issues and foster friendship among its members from both the local and expatriate community. The Club welcomes new members to join the club.
